We first saw this photo of Beau and one of his 4 litter mates in the kill-shelter back on May 25th when he was 9 weeks old. We asked the Rescue director to pull one or two of the pups for us to foster. She pulled Beau and his brother Duke, and then found another group to pull their three brothers.Beau and Duke spent the next two weeks at the Rescue to be quarantined following their shelter stay. As soon as we had the green light, we went to pick them both up and brought them to our Foster Home. Unfortunately, our excitement was short lived, as Duke fell immediately ill. Within 12 hours of their arrival they were on their way to the vet hospital where they were admitted, Duke with Parvo and Beau for observation.
Poor Duke died, but miraculously Beau escaped serious symptoms and was soon released back to the Rescue for another week of isolation. Once again, on the first day the vet cleared Beau, we went to get him and bring him back home. But he had lost weight and was very thin and listless. So it was back to the hospital the next morning, where they discovered many painful mouth sores that were stopping him from eating and drinking. Poor Beau!
After another couple of days in the hospital, we finally got Beau back here for more than a night! And we spent a week giving him lots of TLC and plenty of chow to
fatten him back up. And he has been a joyful and happy puppy! He is working on his crate training and house breaking and enjoying playing with the other puppies. But this past weekend we noticed some hair loss around his right eye and so it was back to the vet on Monday to have it evaluated. Luckily this time it is nothing serious-- probably just ringworm, we'll know for sure in a few more days-- which we have already begun treating with good results. On Saturday Beau went to his first Meet & Greet with the Forgotten Friends and lots of people told us how darling he is, so we know that he won't be with us for that long. We hope that his Forever Family finds him very soon-- this sweet boy sure deserves it!!
